Celje, 17 July (STA) - Austria's Cineplexx will take over the management of Planet Tuš cinema multiplexes around Slovenia after the Austrian cinema operator and Tuš Group have signed a strategic partnership, the group wrote in a press release on Tuesday. Cineplexx is to expand the existing activities of the multiplexes with new investments.
According to the press release, the offloading of the cinema network is part of Tuš Group's strategy, which envisages a focus on the group's core strategic activities.
The biggest and most successful cinema multiplex network in Slovenia will "get a new opportunity for development with the international impulse," stressed the group's director, Matjaž Zadravec.
With the partnership, Planet Tuš cinemas are to be enriched with new content and Cinemaplexx is also to invest in continuing digitalisation and upgrading to 3D technologies.
By taking over the Planet Tuš network, Cineplexx is becoming the leading cinema operator in the region, the press release says.
Cineplexx is part of the group around Austrian film distributor Constantin Film and already manages cinemas in Croatia, northern Italy, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia.
The Planet Tuš network comprises 32 theatres with a total of 7,413 seats in Kranj, Koper, Celje, Maribor and Novo mesto. The theatres sold a total of almost 1.3m tickets last year.
