Ljubljana, 20 March (STA) - There were almost 504,000 broadband internet connections in Slovenia at the end of 2011, 87% of which were used by households, the Statistics Office said on Tuesday.
The household broadband penetration rate was 64.7%, according to the report on the development of the electronic communications market in the last quarter of 2011 recently issued by the Agency for Postal and Electronic Communications (APEK).
XDSL accounted for the biggest share (55.3%) of broadband connections. Almost 27% of users were connected via cable modems, while the share of FTTH users stood at 15.9%. Other fixed broadband technologies had a 2.1% share.
The leading provider of fixed broadband internet access is the state-owned Telekom Slovenije with a 41.8% share. It is followed by T-2, Telemach, Amis and Tušmobil.
