Ljubljana, 15 May (STA) - Slovenia saw a big jump in the value of construction works this spring as it strives to repair the damage caused by a severe ice storm in February. Data released by the Statistics Office on Thursday show a 37% increase in the first quarter of the year and a 44.7% jump in March year-on-year.
The value of construction works performed on buildings in the first quarter of the year increased 4% compared to the same period last year, while civil engineering works surged by 54.6%.
In March the value of construction works performed on buildings was up 2.8% on a yearly level, while the value of works performed in civil engineering jumped by 66.5% compared to March 2013.
"The reason for the high annual growth in the value of construction works lies in better weather conditions....and the repair of damage caused by sleet in February," the Statistics Office said.
The value of construction works performed in March was nonetheless still 24.2% lower than the monthly average in 2010.
