Ljubljana, 09 October (STA) - The power of digital tourism will highlight the annual Days of Slovenian Tourism industry conference, which is scheduled to take part at the seaside resort of Portorož between 13 and 15 October.
Technology will be the central theme of the three-day event, as digital tourism will be accompanied by debates on mobile marketing and communication through social networks.
The SPIRIT investment and tourism promotion agency, which organises the conference, highlighted that digital tourism was gaining a bigger share of the tourism budget in Slovenia.
SPIRIT's Karmen Novarlič said that digital tools which are aimed at enhancing the experience of tourists now make up around 20% of the budget of the tourism sector.
"In 2015 we expect to surpass 30% and the goal is to see it rise further. We are hoping for this trend to catch on at the level of individual destinations and companies," said Novarlič.
The conference will draw on foreign practices in touching on mobile marketing and communication via social networks.
Novarlič said that the debate will examine both the advantages of promotion and analysis using online tools.
An accompanying tourism forum will be dedicated to the best digital practices in tourism. "We are focusing on communicating through social networks and mobile media as a competitive edge in the hotel industry," she added.
The participants are also expected to be presented with the latest trends in interactive catalogues and multimedia portals, as well as personalisation tools.
The head of the Directorate for Tourism and Internationalisation at the Economy Ministry Marjan Hribar expects that the event will be "an opportunity to set goals and debate the pressing issues in the sector".
