Begunje na Gorenjskem, 15 March (STA) - Sports equipment manufacturer Elan and footwear manufacturer Alpina have each won a Red Dot Design Award, which is conferred annually by the Essen-based Design Zentrum Nordhein Westfalen.
Elan will receive the prestigious award in June for its SLX WaveFlex series of skis, which it conceived together with the industrial design studio Gigodesign, while Alpina convinced the jury with its cross-country ski boots Promise developed by Alpina experts in cooperation with Studio Jure Miklavc.
Elan and Alpina were selected among 1,663 companies from 57 countries.
"The award proves Elan is a leading brand in the ski industry when it comes to design that is regularly winning such important awards, which is something we are all very proud of at Elan," product manager Luka Grilc stated in a press release.
What is even more important is that the highlight is on key strategic components of Elan products - design, innovation and performance, which is reflected in the sales and the response from the buyers, he added.
"Tradition, know-how and people at Alpina made sure that innovative ski boots entered the market which have a lot in common with the history of cross-country skiing and also its future," a press release from Alpina reads.
In 2007 Elan received the award for its Speedwave series of skis. Alpina meanwhile bagged it for the third year in succession. The award, which has been conferred since 1955, is one of the most prestigious awards in design.
