Electricity Consumption Up 3% in Q1

Ljubljana, 22 April (STA) - Electricity consumption in the first three months of 2011 was up 3% year-on-year, the Statistics Office said on Friday. In March, it increased by 9% over February.

Production in hydro plants increased by 25% over the month before, in thermal power plants by 11%, while it was down 15% at the Krsko Nuclear Power Plant after plant was taken off the grid for a few days because of an external fault. Fuel consumption increased by 7% in March.

On the monthly level, March saw an increase in the supply of all fuels, save for coke (-44%) and natural gas (-5%).

The supply of other petroleum products increased by 70%; of kerosene jet fuel by 42%, of brown coal and lignite by 30%, of motor fuel by 18% and of diesel fuel by 10%.

The total energy generator output in March was 1,315 gigawatt hours (GWh), which is 4% more than in February. Slovenia imported 1,065 GWh and exported 1,074 GWh of electricity in March.
