Ljubljana, 11 September (STA) - The Ministry of Infrastructure has awarded the Vienna-based Kapsch CarrierCom a EUR 117m contract to equip the Slovenian train communications network with GSM-R technology on track totalling 1,200 km, the company said.
The system will be built by a consortium led by Kapsch that includes Slovenian telecommunications gear maker Iskratel and the construction firm GH Holding. The project is slated for completion in 2015.
Kapsch will deliver the entire turnkey technology for the GSM-R infrastructure. It will also perform maintenance and service of the system for five years.
The project is eligible for EU cohesion funding earmarked for the development of rail infrastructure.
