Ljubljana, 01 June (STA) - Finance Minister Franc Krizanic discussed the possibility of setting up a Slovenian-Qatari fund for promoting growth and technological development in Slovenia as he met Qatari officials on Sunday and Monday.
The idea was examined during Krizanic's meetings with his Qatari counterpart Yusif Husayn al-Kamal and the general manager of the Qatar Investment Authority Ahmad Al Sayed in Doha, the Finance Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
The aim of the fund would be to promote a recovery in Slovenia while guaranteeing long-term returns on the investment. Both sides support the idea in principle.
Technical talks on the project are to continue, with both sides hoping to make progress ahead of the scheduled visit by the Qatari Emir, Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, to Slovenia at the end of June.
Krizanic met with the Qatari officials as part of his attendance at the Global Redesign Summit in Doha, to which he was invited by the World Economic Forum.
At the summit Krizanic participated in a special panel dedicated to financial stability and reform of the international financial system. The minister stressed the need to bolster the resilience and transparency of the derivatives market as a key precondition for bolstering global finances.
