Brdo pri Kranju, 26 September (STA) - The Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GZS) gave out seven golden awards for best innovations in Slovenia in 2011 as part of the 10th Day of Innovation on Wednesday, with household appliance maker Gorenje bagging two.
Apart from Gorenje, the golden awards went to the CBS Institute and prefabricated construction maker Trimo, electro-technical products maker Eti, plastics fittings producer Kovinoplastika Lož and pharma companies Krka and Lek.
Slovenia is one of the best countries innovation-wise and has several good models for introducing innovations in practice, President Danilo Türk stressed in his address to innovators.
Head of the GZS Samo Hribar Milič meanwhile noted that "innovation is measured in the amount of new ideas that we are capable of transferring into business and selling at a price with added value".
Apart from the golden awards, the chamber also distributed 28 silver and six bronze awards as well as four diplomas among the 230 innovation projects that had been entered into the competition.
An audience award was also given out for the first time, going to genetic testing company GenePlanet.
