Koper, 09 July (STA) - Slovenia's sole sea port operator, Luka Koper, transshipped 7.8m tonnes of cargo in the first half of the year, a rise of 22% year-on-year. The biggest rise at the port of Koper was registered in container transshipment, which grew by 46%.
The company transshipped 221,481 containers in the first half of the year, a rise of more than 56,000 compared to the year before, Luka Koper said in a statement posted on the website of the Ljubljana Stock Exchange on Friday.
Meanwhile, the number of cars transshipped at the port rose by a third to 175,394 and bulk cargo was up by around 25% to 3.4m tonnes.
The port also transshipped around 1.3m tonnes of liquid cargo, an increase of almost 3% over the year before.
The only segment that contracted in the first half of this year was general cargo.
Luka Koper warned that the large increase in transshipment at the port would not result in a comparable rise in revenues, since the company is seeing a drop in storage revenues due to faster throughput of cargo.
