Industrial Output Down in May

Ljubljana, 10 July (STA) - The value of industrial output in Slovenia decreased by more than 3% in May on monthly level and by almost 4% year-on-year. In the first five months of 2012 it was slightly lower than the same period last year, the Statistics Office said on Tuesday.

At the monthly level, industrial production rose by 6% in mining and quarrying and by more than 2% in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply. However a more than 4% drop was recorded in manufacturing.

Compared to May 2011, the output was up by just over 16% mining and quarrying and by around 10% in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply. Manufacturing saw a 5% drop.

The monthly trends show a decrease in all industrial groupings, in capital goods by 5%, in intermediate goods by 2% and in consumer goods by 2%.

Decreases were also registered on the yearly level - by 3% in intermediate groups, by 5% in capital goods and 4% in consumer goods.

The value of inventories was down 0.2% compared to April while it rose by almost 6% year-on-year.
