Koper, 25 January (STA) - The Koper Port handled 15.37 million tonnes of cargo in 2010, a rise of 17% over the year before. Operating revenues topped EUR 119m according to preliminary estimates, up 10% year-on-year, port operator Luka Koper said on Tuesday.
While cargo volumes rose across the board, the biggest increase was recorded in container transshipment, which surged 40% to 476,731 units (TEU), a new record for the only Slovenian port.
The increase is attributed mainly to new direct container lines with East Asia, the company said.
Vehicles transshipment rose by a fifth to 379,250 units, while bulk cargo was up 14% to 6.36 million tonnes. The volume of general cargos, and liquid cargos rose only marginally.
