Kočevje, 25 September (STA) - A new facility which produces laminated wood from local timber was officially opened in the Kočevje industrial park on Wednesday, in what is a EUR 6 million investment expected to bring some 25 jobs to the area struggling with high unemployment.
Announcing the news for the STA, the company Koles said it had invested EUR 6.13 million in the purchase of land, required infrastructure and production lines.
The company intends to use the timber processed in local sawmills, and then further process it, dry it and glue wood panels together to make laminated wood.
The entire production is automated, supervised and controlled, with the current annual capacity in two shifts estimated at 18,000 cubic metres of wood. A third shift is planned to be introduced eventually.
Products and material produced by Koles are used in the construction of residential, commercial and industrial buildings.
According to the company, the products are environmentally friendly and may also be used, for example, for support systems in the construction of sport complexes, school buildings and bridges.
Koles was established in May 2017 by the engineering companies HS Inženiring from Ljubljana and Vakuumteh from Kamnik.
