Mežica, 05 July (STA) - The municipality of Mežica in the north has signed an agreement on cooperation in various fields with Xuzhou, a major city in Jiangsu province, China. The initiative for cooperation came from the Slovenian group Cablex, which has a subsidiary in Xuzhou.
The agreement was signed in Mežica on Friday by Mežica Mayor Dušan Krebel and the head of the Xuzhou Municipal Party Committee Zhou Tiegen, who was accompanied by a nine-member delegation.
After the Mežica-based company Cablex-M opened a subsidiary in Xuzhou a few years ago, Mežica and the multimillion Chinese city now plan to cooperate in culture, tourism and other fields.
The agreement signed today opens the door to "numerous opportunities and positive effects", said Krebel.
He noted Mežica was a town with a mining and industrial heritage as well as natural assets.
Tiegen said that cooperation and friendship between the cities had started already when Cablex opened its company in China.
He is confident that the agreement signed today would also boost the friendly relations between Slovenia and China.
Before signing the deal in Mežica, the Chinese delegation visited the Economy Ministry in Ljubljana and made a stop at Cablex-M, where it was received by CEO Samo Simetinger.
Simetinger told the STA Cablex had slowly built trust in Xuzhou and convinced the locally community with good and honest work. "Today, Cablex is an established brand and an important business partner for local suppliers, local authorities and company employees," he said.
