Ljubljana, 15 March (STA) - Employees in Slovenia earned an average of EUR 936.77 in monthly pay for January, down 2.1% on December and up 2.1% on January 2008. This was the second consecutive monthly drop in earnings.
The average gross earnings for January amounted to EUR 1,448.12, which makes a fall of 2.7% on December and a rise of 2.2% year on year, according to Monday's release from the Statistics Office.
Monthly gross earnings for January were 0.6% higher than the average of monthly gross earnings paid out last year, while net pay for January was 0.7% higher than the average in net incomes for last year.
The highest gross earnings were paid out in the statistical region Central Slovenia (EUR 1,631.24) and the lowest in the Notranjsko-Krasko (south, EUR 1,231.90).
Compared with December, wages only increased in SE Slovenia (up 0.3%), while they fell most in the Lower Sava and Zasavje regions (both down 5.9%).
Among industries, average monthly earnings were highest in finance and insurance (EUR 2,050.78 gross).
