Ljubljana, 06 September (STA) - Almost 19,700 apartments were under construction in Slovenia in 2009, which is 17% less than in the year before. A total of 8,561 or 43% of these apartments were finished by the end of last year, the Statistics Office said on Monday.
Most apartments were constructed last year in central Osrednjeslovensko region, which includes Ljubljana (30%), followed by the NE statistical region of Podravje (17%), while the central statistical region of Zasavje was at the bottom (slightly more than 0.5%).
In central Slovenia, the most apartments were finished in Ljubljana (830), Logatec (395) and Dol pri Ljubljani (174), while in Podravje most apartments were constructed in Maribor (378) and Slovenska Bistrica (208).
The average size of apartments constructed in 2009 was 115 square metres (170 sq metres in single-apartment buildings and 75 sq metres in multi-apartment buildings), according to the office.
At the end of 2009, there were a total of 838,252 apartments in Slovenia, with the average size of 77 sq metres.
More than a half (52%) of all apartments in Slovenia were constructed between 1971 and 2009. The busiest was the 1971-1980 period, when 22% of all apartments were built.
