Ljubljana, 23 April (STA) - A total of 490,000 tourists visited Slovenia in the first three months of this year, up 7% compared to the same period last year, according to preliminary data released by the Statistics Office Friday.
The number of Slovenian guests rose 9% to 234,612, while the number of foreign tourists increased 5% to 255,855.
The number of overnight stays stood at 1.53 million, which is 4% more than in the first three months of 2009.
In March, Slovenia's tourist sites and resorts were visited by 163,000 people, which is 4% more than in March 2009. The number of Slovenian and foreign guests increased by 5% and 4% to 73,507 and 89,276 respectively.
Overnight says were up by 4% year-on-year to 475,543. Foreigners accounted for 48% of overnight stays in March, most of them coming from Austria, Italy and Germany.
Some 43% of the overnight stays were recored in spas, 20% in mountain resorts and 17% on the coast.
In Ljubljana, the number of overnights increased in March by 6% compared to the same month last year, the office said.
The Slovenian Tourist Board added that the positive trend was expected to continue in April.
