Ljubljana, 15 October (STA) - The drop in average pay in Slovenia continued in August, as gross pay stood at EUR 1,506.88, 0.2% less in nominal terms than in July. In the first eight months of the year, average gross pay stood at EUR 1,511.78, down 0.5% nominally compared to the same period last year, the Statistics Office said.
The drop in real terms was even more pronounced, standing at 0.5% in August and 2.5% on annual level for the January-August period, according to data released by the Statistics Office on Tuesday.
The average net pay in Slovenia stood at EUR 989.52 in August, down 0.1% in nominal terms and 0.4% in real terms over the month before.
The biggest drop in average pay in the first eight months of the year compared to last year was in the retail sector and in vehicle repair, while pay was flat in the financial and insurance sector.
A rise in pay in this period was registered in the energy and water sector and in manufacturing.
Meanwhile, pay in the public sector was down by 1.5% in the first eight months compared to the same period last year.
The Statistics Office highlighted regional differences, pointing out that the only regions to exceed the Slovenian average for net pay in August was central Slovenia and south-eastern Slovenia.
