Ljubljana, 10 December (STA) - Companies expect weak employment prospects in the first quarter of 2014, but their projections have nevertheless improved year-on-year and compared to the last quarter of this year, according to a poll by temping agency Manpower presented on Tuesday.
The net employment forecast - the difference between the share of employers planning hiring and those planning lay-offs - is +2% for Q1, an improvement of two percentage points over the previous quarter and up 11 points year-on-year.
"Hiring will not rise dramatically, but fewer plan a decline in headcount. Most companies have already completed reorganisation so we can expect fewer lay-offs," said Romana Šercelj, sales director at ManpowerGroup Slovenija.
The hiring expectations are positive in six industries, including mining, construction and transport, and negative in four, most notably in the hospitality industry (-14%).
