Ljubljana, 16 September (STA) - Slovenia's registered unemployment rate dropped by 0.1 percentage points to 12.7% in July, which is down 0.2 points year-on-year. This is the fifth consecutive monthly drop, the Statistics Office said on Tuesday.
The registered unemployment rate reached 14.1% in the first quarter and then dropped to 13.1% in the second quarter of 2014. It decreased both for men and women - from 13.5% to 12.1% and from 14.8% to 14.2%, respectively.
In July, 116,199 persons were registered as unemployed, which is 1% fewer than in June. The number of unemployed men decreased by 1,400, while the number of women was up by over 230.
The registered unemployment rate for men stood at 11.4% and for women at 14.2%.
The number of persons in employment in July decreased by more than 250 or 0.03% compared to June. While the number of men in employment rose by 3,900 to 447,200, the number of women dropped by 4,100 to 354,640.
The construction sector saw the biggest rise in new employments (by 350), while the biggest drop was recorded in education (by over 1,230).
In July, 705,141 persons were in paid employment (down 476 from June) and 96,694 persons were self-employed (up 222 compared to June).
Around 2,300 persons were employed or self-employed for the first time in July.
The number of registered unemployed people edged lower in August as well. According to the Employment Service, 114,784 persons were registered as unemployed, which is 1,400 or 1.2% fewer than in July and down 1.6% year-on-year.
