Ljubljana, 06 March (STA) - A total of 124,066 persons were registered as unemployed in Slovenia at the end of February, which is 0.2% less than in January and 7.8% more than in February 2012, the Employment Service said on Wednesday. Fewer unemployed people were employed or self-employed and the demand for workers was lower than in January.
In February, 7,404 new persons were registered as unemployed, which is 53.1% less than in January and 7.1% more than in February 2012. Among the newly-registered unemployed were mostly those whose fixed-term contracts expired.
The number of persons who were employed or self-employed in February reached 4,807, down 22.4% on the monthly comparison and 8.3% year-on-year.
The demand for workers was lower both on the monthly and annual levels. A total of 11,105 job vacancies were registered in February, down 17.5% from January, and 14.9% from February 2012.
In the first two months of the year, 124,162 persons were on average registered as unemployed, which is 7.5% more than in the same period last year.
