Ljubljana, 28 April (STA) - Lorries registered in Slovenia transported 75 million tonnes of cargo in 2009, putting behind 14.7 billion tonne-kilometres. Compared to the year before, the amount of transported goods was down 17%, while the number of tonne-kilometres dropped 9%, the Statistics Office said on Wednesday.
National transport accounted for over 75% of transported goods, but only for some 15% of total tonne-kilometres. The rest was transported abroad.
The amount of cargo transported within Slovenia dropped 19% in 2009 over 2008, while the figure was down 11% in international transport. The amount of road-transported cargo both in export and import dropped 15% in 2009 compared to 2008.
Slovenian hauliers transporting goods within a foreign country transported some 24% less goods in 2009, while the amount of cargo transported anywhere abroad was up 9%.
Transport for hire or reward accounted for 65% of all goods carried and 91% of all tonne-kilometres performed, while transport for own account accounted for 35% of all goods carried and 9% of all tonne-kilometres performed, according to the Statistics Office.
