Ljubljana, 17 January (STA) - Despite a shaky day for shares of grocer Mercator, Slovenian blue chips recorded a third consecutive winning day to push the SBI TOP benchmark index above 700 points for the first time since August 2011. The index closed 1.03% higher at 706.39 points.
Influenced by speculation about the fate of Croatian food group Agrokor's attempt to acquire Mercator, the shares of Slovenia's top grocer lost 1.36% to EUR 73.95 in today's trading.
But other blue chips traded in positive territory, led by insurer Zavarovalnica Triglav, which gained 3.45% to EUR 22.51.
Home appliance maker Gorenje was up 1.88% to EUR 4.17, whereas drug maker Krka added 1.13% to EUR 62.70 as the most active issue with over EUR 1m in turnover.
Trading was relatively brisk, with total daily turnover hitting EUR 2.73m, around two-thirds of which was in blue chips.
Continuing a strong week for financial shares, shares of reinsurer Pozavarovalnica Sava were up 1.11% to EUR 9.10.
