Ljubljana, 24 March (STA) - Slovenia on Tuesday opened its embassy in Brasilia, the Slovenian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday, adding that this confirmed the excellent political and economic relations between Slovenia and Brazil.
The embassy should make a long-term contribution to the connections between the two countries' state institutions, NGOs and individuals as well as promote the already "good and friendly relations", the ministry said.
Brazil is Slovenia's top economic partner in the Latin America. In 2009, the two countries exchanged a total of EUR 88m worth of goods.
Accordingly, one of the embassy's priorities will be to promote economic cooperation and help Slovenian businesses.
Brazil recognised Slovenia's independence in January 1992, while diplomatic relations were established in December 1992. In April 2008, the country opened its embassy in Ljubljana.
