Luxembourg, 18 December (STA) - Slovenia recorded the strongest growth in construction in the EU in October. Seasonally adjusted production in the sector increased by 7.6% from September, which compares to a 1.2% fall in the euro area or a 0.3% decrease in the whole EU, data from Eurostat show. Slovenia also recorded the strongest annual growth.
Year-on-year, production in construction declined by 2.4% in the euro area and decreased by 0.8% in the 28-nation bloc. Revised data for September meanwhile show a 0.5% monthly contraction for the euro area and 0.7% decrease for the EU.
Among countries for which data are available for October, production in construction fell in six and rose in eight countries. The largest decreases were observed in Spain (-2.9%), Slovakia (-2.3%) and Germany (-1.7%), and the most substantial growth in Slovenia (+7.6%), the Czech Republic (+7.2%) and Romania (+4%).
At the annual level, production in construction rose in seven countries, fell in six and remained stable in Germany. Slovenia recorded the strongest growth at 27.3%, followed by Hungary (+10.7%) and Romania (+7.6%). The biggest falls were reported by Portugal (-15.1%), Bulgaria (-7.9%) and Slovakia (-5%).
