Ljubljana, 25 November (STA) - A total of 113,290 companies were active in Slovenia in 2009, according to data released by the Statistics Office on Thursday.
As many as 109,575 of them were small companies with up to 19 employees. They were followed by medium-sized companies employing between 20 and 249 people, while there were only 244 large enterprises.
Small and medium-sized companies employed over 70% of the active population; most of that was in manufacturing.
In 2009 small and medium-sized businesses generated 57% of all sales revenues in industries and around three-quarters of all sales revenues in services.
The largest group of big companies was in the electricity, gas and steam supply sector.
