Ljubljana, 21 April (STA) - The latest international Best Buy Award survey has found that Slovenians prefer mostly domestic brands, which they believe offer the best ratio between the price and quality. Slovenian brands are also appreciated on the markets of former Yugoslavia, according to the survey.
In the survey carried out by the Swiss-based certification association ICERTIAS in January and September 2013, Slovenian consumers opted for a Slovenian product in 109 out of a total of 192 categories.
The winner in the large appliance category was the Velenje-based company Gorenje, while Fructal won the natural juice category, Žito won the food category and Ciciban won the child footwear category.
Gorenje products are also considered to have the best ratio between the price and quality in Slovenia. The brand is followed by retailers Hofer, Mercator, Spar, Lidl and pharma company Krka.
On-line shoppers in Slovenia meanwhile picked a Slovenian product or service in 70 out of a total of 105 categories.
However, experts in individual industries picked a Slovenian product only in 39 out of a total of 87 categories.
The German discount retailer Hofer is the best foreign brand in Slovenia when it comes to the price-quality ratio.
The survey also shows that Slovenian brands remain popular on the markets of former Yugoslavia, with Gorenje, Zlato polje grain and pasta brand and Dormeo mattresses winning their respective categories in Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia.
