Ljubljana, 25 August (STA) - The number of tourists visiting Slovenia was up by some 4% to 1.6m in the first seven months of 2010, the Statistics Office said on Wednesday.
According to the office's figures, tourists generated some 4.7m overnight stays in this period, a rise of 1% on last year.
While the number of overnight stays generated by domestic tourists was on par with the same period in 2009, foreign guests generated 3% more overnight stays.
Meanwhile, in July Slovenia saw 367,203 tourists, which is a 5% increase on last year. The increase was brought about by a 10% increase in the number of foreign visitors.
Despite the increase in the number of tourists, the number of overnight stays in July remained on par with July 2009 due to an 8% drop in overnight stays by Slovenian guests.
Foreign tourists accounted for 58% of all overnight stays in July, with the largest share of tourists from Germany (11%) and Italy (11%), followed by the Netherlands (10%), Austria (8%), Belgium (7%) and the Czech Republic (5%).
