Velenje, 06 July (STA) - Several companies around the Velenje coal mine, the Maribor University, the Economy Ministry and a number of other companies from the region signed on Wednesday a memorandum of association on the funding of a development project dubbed the Energy Development Centre. The project managed to obtain EUR 11m in EU regional development funds.
The goal of the project is to support an effective energy development centre and the strengthening of Slovenia's energy sector. The project was established and developed by PV Invest, a subsidiary of Premogovnik Velenje, the group managing the Velenje coal mine.
The consortium behind the development centre includes all key players of the energy and processing sectors in the Velenje region. The partners participating believe that research on efficient energy production is becoming ever more important in the face of growing energy prices and restricted energy sources.
The partners will provide funds for the construction and equipment of laboratory facilities and facilities needed for the making of prototypes with a total surface of 4,824 sq metres on three locations, all in the area of Velenje.
