Wages in Electronic Industry to Increase

Ljubljana, 29 March (STA) - Wages in the electronic industry will rise this year in accordance with a deal signed by unions and employers on Friday that amends the collective bargaining agreement for the sector.

Base wages in all brackets will rise 2.4% effective on 1 March and by a further 2% on 1 September. The annual holiday allowance will rise to EUR 830, said Lidija Jerkič, the head of the SKEI trade union.

Jerkič is pleased with the deal even though SKEI sought a 6.5% pay rise. She said it was important that the lowest wages, which are "indecently low", rise to above the level of the statutory minimum wage.

The head of the electronics section at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GZS), Valter Leban, added it was crucial that the deal was hammered out at the negotiating table "without street pressure".

The agreement was signed by representatives of three union groups covering the electronics industry as well as the GZS and the Employers' Association.

It comes after SKEI staged a token strike in late January, when it demanded pay rises ranging from 6.5% to 9% depending on wage brackets.
